Dr. Poorvi Desai was born in Chicago, IL, and grew up in St. Petersburg, FL. After completing the International Baccalaureate program at St. Petersburg High School, she went on to earn her medical degree from the accelerated six-year program at the University of Missouri-Kansas City School of Medicine. She then returned to Tampa to complete graduate medical training at USF/Moffitt Cancer Center.
She has been recognized nationally by receiving the Conquer Cancer Foundation Howard E. Lessner Endowed Merit Award by the American Society for Clinical Oncology (ASCO) for her work in lymphoma research. She was also awarded the Moffitt Fellowship Spotlight Award and was a Poster Finalist at ACP Florida. She has participated in several national and international research projects, and authored numerous high-impact publications including book chapters.
Dr. Desai has a special interest in personalized medicine, cancer survivorship, and nutritional deficiencies. She recognizes that blood disorders and cancer can be physically and emotionally complex, and believes in treating the whole person. She has worked with the American Cancer Society and the American Institute of Cancer Research to advocate for nutrition and exercise as a core component of cancer care.
Dr. Desai is a member of the American Society of Clinical Oncology (ASCO), American Society of Hematology (ASH), Florida Association of Clinical Oncology (FLASCO), and American College of Lifestyle Medicine (ACLM). In her free time, Dr. Desai enjoys cooking, traveling, yoga, and pilates.
